How do I get a job in the mining industry?
There are a number of avenues you can take to get started in the industry depending on the skills/experience you have and the sort of role you are hoping to secure. Previous mine site experience is always an advantage but other relevant experience gained from a remote location such as Remote Area Nursing or the Military are also highly regarded. Make sure you are aware of the qualifications needed to work in your chosen occupation and be proactive in keeping them up to date. For people starting out in the industry we recommend you take on a few short term contracts initially rather than diving straight into a permanent role. This will give you an opportunity to get a taste for the industry and see how you like it. It also allows you to experience a number of different sites with varying locations/rosters/shift patterns.
